Hi, all. Happy to be part of this group, although it may be short-lived. Unfortunately, I have to part with my trusty 2004 full-size, 4WD Montero Ltd. It needs to go fairly fast. As in by next week. I'm the 2nd owner, having bought it out of KS at 145,000 miles in roughly 2019. It is "champagne metallic", basically beige, and has always been well-maintained. In fact, I met the original mechanic, who clearly remembered this venerable, iconic vehicle and its original owner, on a trip to KC in 2023. He even commented that there is a strong community of Pajero/Montero owners. So he gets it. I've put another 100K on the smooth-running and largely highly reliable rig, mostly interstate miles. It is solid and in great shape with no leaks, 1 odd pinpoint dent in a door, essentially no appreciable undercarriage rust, and a very clean engine compartment. The "check engine" light is often on and the diagnostic codes consistently point to a nebulous air intake issue that I believe many Montero owners are aware of. I think there is actually a YouTube video or two or 3 about this, with some possible hacks to solve it. The maintenance records for this rig will show that, perhaps naively, I have had multiple parts changed and other work done to fix the issue over the past few years, but nothing has helped. The good news is that whatever the mystery problem is, it has never resulted in any apparent performance issues. For example, on the interstate I always get about 400 miles to a tank of gas. That has never varied. The only other possible repair at this time that I'm aware of is that the vehicle may need a replacement catalytic converter. There is some inexplicable rust on the inner left passenger door frame. It was there when I bought the truck and I have never figured out why it occurred, as there is no door leak during rain, carwashes, or driving through puddles. I will note that the automatically-extending and retracting radio antenna broke free when I foolishly passed through a carwash with the radio on and the antenna thus in the extended position. Being an LTD, the interior is leather, also beige. The driver's seat is fairly worn, but the rest of the interior - carpet, upholstery, plastic surfaces, etc... - are all in really good shape. The rig isn't Mecum quality by any means, but it is one of the nicer used Monteros of this vintage that I've seen either on the road or online for sale. When I bought the truck I lived in TX and, when not in use, it was garaged. Similarly, it was garaged from 2021-2024 when I lived in central KS. Since moving to Bennington, Vermont in the fall of 2024, it has been outside since we don't have a garage here. It was however covered and not driven all this past winter with a high quality nylon cover. It has the classic rear door-mounted spare tire (although I removed the futuristic-looking plastic cover and have it stored in KS if you want it), and I have at least one additional full-size spare - complete with an original wheel - to go with this rig. I'll close with the observation that these heavily-built, solid Montero/Pajeros were in many ways the last of the old style Land Rover/Land Cruiser sorts of 4x4s. With the various H and L 4x4 ranges it has something like 24 forward gears and with the right equipment could probably be used to plow a field just as easily as it can be used as a daily driver, long-haul road warrior, or weekend truck-camper. Based on its known care, history, and performance to date, I believe this particular rig potentially has another 100,000 miles in it. I'm asking $4000 for the truck and, if you call or text, can share photos and answer questions. 406-799-4405
